“Chinese Bridge” –Greater New York Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College StudentsThe “Chinese Bridge” –Greater New York Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students will be held on April 3 and April 10, 2010. It is the first overseas-based Chinese competition for foreign college students hosted by Hanban. The motivation for this competition is to inspire foreign non-Chinese-heritage students the enthusiasm of studying Chinese, and create an interchange opportunity for Chinese study.
This competition classifies the contestants as two groups:
Junior group (the 1st and 2nd year college/university students),
Senior group (the 3rd or higher year college/university students and graduate students)
This not only shows the fairness of this competition, but also will encourage more students with basic Chinese level to participate in this competition, and provide a great opportunity for them to better understand the culture and art of China.
As the competition organizer, the New York Service Center for Chinese Study Fellows sincerely invites your school to recommend one to three contestants for each competition group. (The competition rules and registration information is in the following pages.)
The final competition will be broadcasted at Chinese TV channels and will be reported by the main English and Chinese media agencies in the U.S. And the competition DVD will be produced and distributed to many U.S. universities to let more and more people understand to “Chinese Bridge” and Chinese culture.

Rules for “Chinese Bridge” –Greater New York Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students
Contestant Eligibility:
All contestants should be currently-enrolled college/university students under Age 30.
Contestant Group:
Junior group (the 1st and 2nd year college/university students),
Senior group (the 3rd or higher year college/university students and graduate students)

Preliminary competition:
April 3, 2010 (Saturday), 9:00am-5:00pm,
At New York University (Silver Hall), 32 Waverly PL, Room 714, New York, NY10003
Final competition:
April 10, 2010 (Saturday), (time and location undecided)
Registration Deadline: March 10, 2010
Competition Contents:
1、 Chinese language proficiency - The contestants are required to present a short speech (2 minutes for junior group, and 3 minutes for senior group) with topics that are non-political related. Junior group contestants are allowed to read the notes while presenting the speech.
2、 Chinese culture and art talents -The contestants can choose to perform Chinese song, Chinese dance, Chinese folk arts, Chinese instrument, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese drawing, Chinese paper-cut, Chinese martial arts, etc.(Only prepare one to perform).
3、 Knowledge of China- Only for the senior group contestants. The contestants need to answer one question about China. The questions and answer keys will be provided in advance for preparation.
Prize and Awarding Methods:
1、 About 20% to 30% contestants of each group will be selected to participate in the final competitions. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes, and all finalists will receive different awards.
2、 All preliminary competitions contestants who do not enter the final competitions will receive souvenirs.
3、 All contestants are eligible to apply for scholarship to study in China.
4、 The winners will be selected to participate in the final contest of the 9th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competitions for Foreign College Students in China in July, 2010.
【“汉语桥”大纽约地区大学生中文比赛】通知
由中国国家汉办主办,纽约中国留学服务中心承办的【“汉语桥”大纽约地区大学生中文比赛】将于2010年4月3日与4月10日,在纽约举办。这是汉办第一次在海外举办的正式汉语比赛,目的是为了激发广大非华裔大学生学习汉语的热情,为他们创建一个汉语交流的平台。比赛将分为低年级组(1-2年级学生)和高年级组(3年级以上学生)的分组比赛,不仅体现比赛的公平性,更主要的是鼓励更多初学汉语低年级的学生参赛,希望通过比赛能使他们更多更好地了解中国文化艺术。
诚请贵校推荐低年级组和高年级组各1-3名选手参赛,报名截止日期为3月10日。 (具体报名与比赛细则,请见后页附件)。
美国主流媒体和中文媒体将对比赛进行报道,决赛过程将全程录像并在中文电视台播放,赛后将制成DVD发送各有关大学,让更多学生/老师了解“汉语桥”,喜欢“汉语桥”,参与“汉语桥”。

比 赛 规 则
参赛资格:
年龄30岁以下的在校大学生(专科生,本科生和研究生)。
参赛组别:
低年级组(1-2年级学生)
高年级组(3年级以上学生)
初赛时间:
2010年4月3日,(9:00am – 5:00pm)
初赛地点:在纽约大学New York University (Silver Hall)

注:决赛日期4月10日(地点待定)
报名截至日期:3月10日。
比赛项目:
1、 汉语语言能力比赛 - 自拟题目演讲低年级(2分钟)、高年级(3分钟)不涉及政治内容。低年级组选手可以看稿演讲。
2、 中国文化艺术技能比赛 - 如:中国歌曲、舞蹈、曲艺、器乐、书法、 绘画、剪纸、武术等等(自选一个节目)。
3、 中国国情知识比赛(只限高年级组) - 当场答题(问答题将有一 定范围让选手赛前预习)。
奖励方法:
1、 初赛高、低两组都将决出20%-30%选手参加决赛,决赛将两组分别决出一、二、三等项,参加决赛者都将获得不等奖项并获得奖杯、奖状、奖品。
2、 所有初赛选手都将获得纪念奖。
3、 所有参加比赛的选手都可申请去中国留学的奖学金。
4、 决赛后将选出最优秀者代表大纽约地区赴中国参加2010年7月在中国举办的第九届“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛决赛。
